Black Lives Matter
If a child came up to me and asked me what Black Lives Matter is and they want to know more about it. I would tell them that Black Lives Matter is a movement to end police violence against Black lives. When explaining this to young kids, it is better to use simple words and make sure that I use words that would understand. The movement wants to hold police accountable for their actions and not get away with them. The movement was created to stand up for the injustices that have been happening in America. One question is what Nonprofit organizations around Rhode Island have helped support this movement? Another Question that I have is how can the involvement of Nonprofit organizations make this movement bigger and contribute to the movement?

Jacob these are great questions! More organizations should be made that are centered around the Black Lives Matter movement! Also its great seeing my peers from class talk about this! :)
ReplyDeleteImportant questions!
ReplyDeleteI agree that catering your words to your audience to so key. A youth might follow up to ask what "police violence" meant.
These are great questions Jacob. Significantly BLM is not a nonprofit organization however they accept donations through another 501c3 (Thousand Currents). This article (https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/black-lives-matter-a-catalyst-for-philanthropic-change_us_582234bae4b0102262411df7) explains how the movement has attracted significant funding. As far as RI nonprofits that support BLM, this would be a great topic to explore!
